The Accreditation Board for Bible Colleges & Universities (ABBCU) is an established, independent, faith-based accrediting body committed to upholding the highest standards of doctrinal integrity and academic excellence. From its inception, ABBCU was designed to serve select Bible colleges and theological institutions that met rigorous criteria.
Our History
Getting Started
Gaining early respect within a close network of evangelical
and theological institutions, ABBCU quickly became known for
its uncompromising adherence to biblical truth and its commitment
to strengthening Christ-centered education. As interest grew
from emerging ministries and smaller colleges seeking credible accreditation, the Board recognized a pressing need to expand
its reach. In response, ABBCU prayerfully made a strategic
and historic decision to expand its reach—extending its
services beyond national boundaries to become a globally
accessible accrediting agency. This expansion was guided by
the unwavering commitment to doctrinal integrity while providing greater access to quality assurance for Bible colleges and
seminaries worldwide.
Leadership
Under the leadership of Apostle Donald R. Robertson, who was appointed President during this pivotal transition, ABBCU undertook a comprehensive review of its policies. The Board revised its eligibility requirements, allowing institutions with as few as five enrolled students to apply for accreditation. It also introduced a more accessible fee structure, opening doors for developing ministries, rural programs, and startup theological schools to receive formal recognition.
Today
Today, ABBCU remains a Christ-centered accrediting authority dedicated to preserving biblical standards in higher education. Through its thorough accreditation process, robust institutional standards, and ongoing support, ABBCU continues to serve as a beacon for institutions worldwide that are committed to honoring Christ, maintaining biblical integrity, and delivering academic excellence.
